Who Will Watch the watchmen
In the recent weeks, several deaths has been reported as security operatives take advantage of the growing insecurity crisis in the nation to extort money from innocent civilians, the most recent being the death reported at onitsha, in anambra state where a policeman allegedly killed a coaster bus driver over his refusal to pay the 20 naira bribe, his refusal to cooperate with their evil practices, his refusal to support the increasing state of corruption in the country, his boldness to stand for his right.
Even security forces in the north kills innocents citizens who fails to give them what they ask and in defense, they state that the deceased are suspected boko haram members in which case nobody would ask any questions regarding their deaths. I remember traveling to Nsukka in Enugu state at one period, when a Soldier stops our driver on the road and asks him for PURE WATER(money), the driver claims not to have anything on him to give and the reply he got from the Soldier still shocks me till this very day, the soldier said, "IF I SHOOT YOU HERE, NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN TO ME BECAUSE IF ASKED OF THE CAUSE FOR MY ACTION, I WOULD SAY THAT WE WERE ENGAGED IN A SHOOTOUT WITH ARMED ROBBERS AND YOU WERE SHOT IN THE PROCESS IN WHAT CASE WE MAY EVEN PARADE YOU AS ONE OF THEM." This made me to believe that all the parade suspects and robbers we see everyday, are all but robbers. All are just stories that are made up.
Another incidence of our security forces killing us for fun was seen when a commuter bus conductor was pulled down to death by an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency(LASTMA) last week while on duty leaving behind his wife and 3 little kids, for a reason which I believe to be similar to that at onitsha, the man probably refused to give him a share of the national treasury and he in turn pulled him down to prevent him from running which lead to his death.
A recent report as is seen above just reached me now that a member of our SUPPOSED SECURITY AGENCY(the police) just shot another civilian this sunday morning. The civilian who is believed to be on his way to or back from church with the bible(evidence) in his hands was shot dead undisputedly by a policeman whom he was reportedly exchanging words with. The policeman whose job I believe is to protect the civilian immediately took to arm his gun seeing he could no longer contend with the civilian, and so he allegedly shot his benefactor, whose taxes, direct or indirect is paying his monthly salary and feeding his family.
The narrated scene actually took place in front of the OJO POLICE STATION(the house of security) and the body is still lying there as of this moment.
With this recent killings, I think it would all come to a time when everyone would legally possess a gun of his own in self-defense as it is seen in the united states.
This series of events has prompted me to ask the question, IF THE WATCHMEN(SECURITY FORCES WHOM ARE TRUSTED WITH THE HANDLING OF ARMS, GUNS AND AMMUNITION) WATCHES OVER US, WHO WILL WATCH THE WATCHMEN?
PLEASE comment below to tell me what you think could be done to stop the serial killing without justice of our fellow countrymen.
Thanks- VNTI TEAM.
