Student shoots playmate in Ondo
Tragedy struck over the weekend at Ile-Oluji town, Ondo State when gunshots by a yet-to-be-identified youth claimed the life of a secondary school student, Wale Yusuf during a football friendly match between the two streets in the town.
Several other youths also sustained injuries when the trigger-happy youth started firing gunshots in different directions following argument that ensued between the supporters of the two football team.
The youths who were secondary school students from the town and other neigbouring towns in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of the state have been engaging themselves in friendly football matches as a way of fostering unity among the youths in the area.
Footballers and supporters who came to watch the match ran for safety following the killing of the student who was protesting alleged bias by the referee.
The tragic incident, which occurred at the foot-field of Gboluji Grammar School in Ile-Oluji threw the entire town into pandemonium as parents and guardians trooped out in search of their children.
Trouble started, it was gathered, when some youths accused the referee of bias and the development led to argument among supporters of the two teams.
The argument was said to be going on when one of the supporters started shooting in different directions and in the process bullets hit the victim and he died on his way to the hospital. Confirming the incident, police spokesman, Adeniran Aremu who described the incident as unfortunate said police were already investigating the killing.
